Ritish, Gurinder emerge as fastest runners

LUDHIANA: Ritish, student of Sports School, Gudha wing in Bathinda district, and Gurinder Singh of Royal Convent School, Nihal Singh Wala in Moga district, wrapped up title in the 100-metre sprint to emerge as the fastest runners among girls and boys, respectively, on the second and penultimate day of the 63rd Punjab State Schools Inter-District Athletics Meet (U-17) at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Ritish, student of Sports School, Gudha wing in Bathinda district, and Gurinder Singh of Royal Convent School, Nihal Singh Wala in Moga district, wrapped up title in the 100-metre sprint to emerge as the fastest runners among girls and boys, respectively, on the second and penultimate day of the 63rd Punjab State Schools Inter-District Athletics Meet (U-17) at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

In the girls’ section, Ritish clocked 12.57 seconds to win the gold while Tanya Preet Kaur of Sant Baba Labh Singh Government Senior Secondary School, Ber Sahib (Amritsar), took 13.13 seconds to a secure silver medal and Balwinder Kaur of Sports School, Gudha wing, finished at third place with the timing of 13.20 second.

Similarly, in the boys’ section, Gurinder Singh took 10.63 seconds to finish ahead of others to bag top honours. He was closely followed by Satnam Singh (10.78 seconds ) of Guru Nanak Mission School, Jalandhar, and Mahaldeep Singh of Sports School, Jalandhar (10.89 seconds) at the second and third place, respectively. Dr Parminder Singh, Director, Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Rupinder Singh Ravi, State Organiser, were the guests of honour today.

3,000-m race: First Rohit Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School, Bahadurgarh (Patiala), second Robin Singh of Sant Sipahi Public Senior Secondary School, Garhiala (Taran Tarn) and third Ajay Kumar of Sports School, Jalandhar.

Long jump: First Rajan Kumar of HDN Senior Secondary School, Bhanupali (Ropar), second Lakhwinder Singh of HDN Senior Secondary School, Bhanupali (Ropar) and third Gurinder Singh of Royal Convent School, Nihal Singh Wala (Moga).

Discus throw: First Dhanvir Singh of Government Senior Secondary School, Khaira Daula (Kapurthala), second Jaskran Surat Singh of Shree Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary School, Amritsar and third Navjot Singh of Sports School, Jalandhar.

100-m hurdles: First Jasmeet Singh of Sports School, Jalandhar, second Amrinder Singh of Bal Bharti Public School, Ludhiana,  and third Imroz Singh of Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana.

400-m race: First Lovepreet Singh of Bhai Nand Anandpur Sahib wing, Ropar, second Arman of Bhai Nand Anandpur Sahib wing, Ropar and Gurnoor Singh of Mata Gujri Public School, Faridkot.

Girls

3,000-m race: First Komalpreet Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Harshachhina (Amritsar), second Karamvir Kaur of Narottam Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Khanna, and third Reena of Shree Guru Arjan Dev Senior Secondary School, Taran Tarn.

High jump: First Harpreet Kaur of Baba Parmanand Kanya Mahavidalaya, Sangrur, second Sheetal of Dashmesh Public Senior Secondary School, Lambi (Muktsar) and third Jaspreet Kaur of Silver Rock School, Bathinda.

Discus throw: First Mandeep Kaur of Baba Parmanand Kendarya Vidayala Sangrur, second Manjot Kaur Government Senior Secondary School, Kairon Wing (Taran Tarn) and third Jasmeet Kaur of Anand Ishar Public School, Chhapaar (Ludhiana).

Pole vault: First Jyoti Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Changal (Sangrur), second Rubalpreet Kaur of Nankana Sahib Public School, Kamaal Majra (Ludhiana) and third Jaskiran Kaur of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Kaion (Taran Tarn).

400-m race: First Dalvir Kaur of Guru Nanak Mission Public School, Dhalla (Jalandhar), second Navdeep Kaur of Guru Nanak Public School, Bassian (Ludhiana), and third Kiranjot Kaur of Hardam Singh Public School, Patiala.

Long jump: First Simran Kaur of Royal Convent School, Nihal Singh Wala (Moga), second Sukhvir Kaur of Nehru Garden Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar Wing, and third Ramneet kaur of Sports School, Gudha Wing.
