Rs 55 lakh in old notes seized at Khanna

KHANNA: The police have seized old currency worth Rs 55,33,000 in the past 24 hours and arrested 14 persons in two cases here.

The police have seized old currency worth Rs 55,33,000 in the past 24 hours and arrested 14 persons in two cases here.

The police got a tip-off that around six persons, in three cars, were roaming around in suspicious circumstances at the military ground, Amloh Road, and that they have old currency in their possession. A police party reached the site and nabbed the persons. A search of their cars yielded Rs 55 lakh in old currency. The suspects have been identified as Ajit Kumar and Pavittar Singh, both residents of Khanna; Surinder Singh of Kalsh Khurd, near Koomkalan; Partap Singh of Chandigarh; a principal of Mani Majra; Gurjeet Singh and Bhagwan Singh, both residents of Kheri Bhekhi village, Fatehgarh Sahib district.

In the second incident, a police team nabbed seven persons with old currency worth Rs 33,000 in the city. The SSP-Khanna said the suspects brought the old currency from Delhi and they were to deliver it to somebody at Khanna. The suspects have been identified as Varinder Kumar of Khanna; Bhola Singh Mehalpur; Ram Lubhaya, Sanjeev Kumar, Tajinder Singh and Mukhwinder Singh, all residents of Nawanshahr; and Lovleen Saini of Hoshiarpur.
