LUDHIANA: The 619th birth anniversary of Sant Kabir was celebrated by Satiguru Kabir Sewa Sangh at Jawahar Nagar Camp here today.

The 619th birth anniversary of Sant Kabir was celebrated by Satiguru Kabir Sewa Sangh at Jawahar Nagar Camp here today. The function was addressed by many religious, political and social leaders. The chief guest on the occasion was MLA Bharat Bhushan.

During celebrations held on Sant Kabir’s birth anniversary every year, meritorious children are felicitated and needy women are provided help.

The function was also addressed by the Principal of the SCD Government College, Dham Singh Sandhu, president of the District Congress (rural), Gurdev Singh Lapran, councillors Narender Kala, Balkar Sandhu and Raj Mehra. Important contributions of the Bhagat community in different areas of society were highlighted on the occasion. Students, who scored high percentage in Xth and XIIth classes, were honoured with cash prizes, stationery and trophies.

The Kabir Ratna Award was conferred on the District Attorney General of Jalandhar, Satpal Bhagat, while senior BJP leader Raj Kumar Khehra was given the Life Time Achievement Award. Sewing machine, ration material, utensils and other items were distributed among the needy women.
