Servants’ verification made compulsory

LUDHIANA: With the rise in number of crime incidents involving migrant labourers or natives of other states, the Ludhiana police has now made verification of all such persons mandatory.

With the rise in number of crime incidents involving migrant labourers or natives of other states, the Ludhiana police has now made verification of all such persons mandatory. Failing to comply with the directions may land person in legal trouble.

In orders issued by the Police Commissioner, RN Dhoke, it was stated that in the capital city of Punjab, population of migrants constitute a large proportion as they were working in industries, private security agencies, commercial establishments, financial firms or employed as domestics etc.

The order further stated that: “It has been noticed that people are employed without verifying their identities.”

Now as per orders, whosoever employs any such persons belonging to other state, their verification document, including residential address of their native place, photograph, landline and mobile phone numbers, ID card, finger prints, Aadhaar card and detail of agency, which arranged servant, should be submitted at the police station concerned. “This is being done to trace such persons if they commit any theft,” the police said.

Nepalese servants were found involved in some incidents of theft reported recently. A servant from Nepal took away cash and gold worth several lakhs from the house of a hosiery owner in Gurdev Nagar recently.

Two incidents of thefts involving Nepalese servants were reported in the past. Jaiveer Singh, who was employed as domestic help, and his two accomplices decamped with a licenced revolver, 24 live cartridges, two diamond set, three gold bangles, Rs 25,000 in cash, arms licence and cable TV set top box on the night of May 4.

In the second case, a servant fled with gold, cash and other valuables worth several lakhs from a house in Arya Enclave in Thrike village on April 20. These two cases remain unsovled as servants were employed without verification.
