The ongoing tussle for one-upmanship between the Congress, the ruling party in the state, and the SAD-BJP combine, in the saddle in the Municipal Corporation, has brought development or for that matter even minor repair and maintenance works, to a complete standstill. Major development works have been stalled because the new government had put brakes on release of funds. Even funds already released to the MC for major infrastructural projects, were recalled in the name of audit. As far as minor repair and maintenance works, especially those of city roads, are suffering because of paucity of funds with the civic body. Due to non-release of pending bills, most contractors have stopped work on the ongoing development projects leaving city residents to fend for themselves. Questions are being raised as to what are intentions of the new government and games politicians play at the cost of development.

Joys of childhood

Childhood is the time to play with balls and balloons, but there are a few, who are not able to enjoy this privilege. They are forced to work during their childhood, but these kids of the lesser God find joys in such little things. A few days ago we saw two children selling balloons and at the same time playing with them (see pic). These simple joys of childhood are something that nobody can buy and are invaluable.
