One of the mission directors of the Smart City project from the Ministry of Urban Development, Saurabh Jain, was in the city today to review the progress of the project here. Starting from 9 am in the morning till evening, Jain, along with other top officials of the Municipal Corporation, had held several meetings and visited many areas.
“Speed up” is Jain’s message to all officers attached with the Smart City project here.
One of the officials of the MC told The Tribune that Jain held a meeting with the officials at he Zone D office during which several presentations were shown to him. Accompanied by several senior officials, Jain visited several sites, including Dugri, Jamalpur garbage dump, Sarabha Nagar, Ghumar Mandi and Feroze Gandhi Market. Several key issues related to the city were discussed.
In a new development, it is learnt that after conducting a meeting with the Board of Directors for Smart City Mission, Ludhiana, in the coming days, fresh tenders for signage and public toilets will be floated. The tenders already floated during the tenure of the then Municipal Commissioner and interim CEO of Smart City Project Ghanshyam Thori stand cancelled. The Mayor had reportedly opposed the tenders, saying that those were floated without consulting the Board of Directors. Once the Board of Directors gives its approval, the tenders will be floated again, said another official, who attended the meeting today.
Municipal Commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar said the director from the Centre looked satisfied with the presentations but had asked all of them to get the things done at a faster pace.
