Hosts Punjab stamped its authority and emerged as champions in the women’s section of the 9th edition of the Softball Federation Cup held on the Punjabi University Campus ground, Patiala, from June 18 to 20.
Proving their dominance throughout the competition, Punjab women players stormed into the final to set up the clash with Kerala. The final, however turned out to be a mismatch in which Punjab made dominated its opponent players by winning the match without being challenged (10-0).
The Punjab contingent comprised Gurpreet Kaur, Mamta, Amritpreet Kaur and Manisha Kumari. Harpreet Kaur, Madhvi Sharma and Rajveer, were from Ludhiana. Simranjot, Ruby, Sukhpreet Kaur, Yadwinder Kaur and Ramandeep Kaur were from Mohali. Harpreet Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Gagandeep Kaur and Divya were from Gurdaspur, whereas Simran was from Fazilka and Manpreet Kaur was from Amritsar.
Prior to their participation in the Federation Cup, these players attended a training camp at Patiala between June 7 and June 17 that helped them improve their performance and fetch the title. Sanjeev Gupta and Pran Nath Passi, President and Secretary, respectively of the Punjab Softball Association lauded the players’ achievement.
