The Unemployed Linemen Union has called upon the management of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and the state government to increase the number of posts for recruitment of linemen from 2,800 to 3,500 and grant relaxation in maximum age limit up to 45 years.

A meeting of the state committee of union, held at Chtar Singh Park here under the presidentship of AAP legislator Pirmal Singh, discussed the recruitment of 2,000 unemployed linemen during the previous regime, whose process was not completed. Even now, a large number of posts are lying vacant.

Addressing the meeting, Pirmal Singh said a delegation of the union, which had met the PSPCL management on October 13, was apprised that 2,800 posts of asisstant linemen would be filled up soon with incumbents up to the age limit of 42 years.

He said unemployed linemen were agitating to seek justice for the last over 20 years. During this period many of them had crossed the upper age limit because the previous government had adopted delaying tactics in filling up vacant posts.

The union demanded that the number of posts and maximum age limit be increased to adjust unemployed linemen. “In case the government failed to concede to these genuine demands, the union will be forced to intensify its agitation at the sole responsibility of the PSPCL management and the state government,” said the union president.
