While the Education Department has sent instructions to the government schools that the students and staff must be present in schools for the celebration of the third International Day of Yoga, but most of the school heads are in a dilemma as they are expecting a thin attendance due to ongoing summer vacations.

Most of the school heads say even though they have given the instructions to the students and staff, but they are only hoping that only students will turn up for the celebrations of the day.

“If the schools were opened, we could have told students to come a bit early. But with vacations going on, we only hope students would turn up,” one of the school principals said.

Another teacher said that without prior preparation for the day, the celebration would turn out to be just a formality. “There are hardly any Yoga teachers in government schools, nor has there been any training to any teachers. There isn’t even any intimation about what ‘asanas’ are going to be conducted. Not only this, students are also notaware of the Yoga asans . It needs a lot of practise because one should have a flexible body ,” said he.

Gearing up for the day

Several other organisations and institutions, however, have been gearing up for the day. “We are going to celebrate the day at several places, in addition to places where the morning sessions are already conducted,” says Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, district president of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan and principal, SCD Government College said.

He said several other places including Rose Garden, Rakh Bagh, Rishi Naga, SDP College, Basant Vihar, Dugri, Madhuban Enclave, some schools, in addition to other places. Members of Brahakumaris also said they would also be celebrating the day in a big way.
