Sonepat, June 28

Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today said the department had cancelled 1.62 crore fake ration cards during last two years resulting in net benefit of Rs10,000 crore to the department.

Talking to mediapersons here, Paswan said about five lakh modern ration depots with the provision of an online system and CCTV cameras would be opened in the country.

“A large numbers of new sheds are being constructed on priority basis for safe storage of the food grains and consumable commodities,” he added.

Earlier, he presided over a meeting of officials from the Food Corporation of India, the Ware Housing Corporation and the Public Distribution System to review the progress on various development projects and welfare schemes being implemented by the state government.
