The annual Thakur Ved Ram national awards 2016-17 ceremony was held at Bhutti colony, 4 km from here, today. The event was held to commemorate the 97th birth anniversary of the founder of Bhuttico, one of the well-reputed co-operative society engaged in producing woollen handloom products.

Kullu Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan was the chief guest at the function. In his address, he appreciated Bhuttico for its exemplary performance.

Simar Sandosh, Chairman of the Punjab Sahitya Kala Akademi, was present as a special guest on the occasion and he detailed the biography of late Thakur Ved Ram and his entire family.

Chairman of the society and former state minister Satya Prakash Thakur said Ved Ram Thakur had made immense contribution to promote the handloom weavers and the co-operative movement.

Fourteen persons were conferred with Thakur Ved Ram national awards for their special contribution in the fields of literature, art, language and culture, journalism, co-operative societies, handicraft and handloom. Mementos were awarded to winners of various events organised during the celebrations and various other persons were awarded for their outstanding performance in the weaving sector.

Cultural presentations were also organised by members of Bhuttico in the evening and winners of various events, organised during the celebrations, performed.
