Hisar, May 30

Two persons were killed and several areas faced blackout when a massive storm hit the district last night.

Sanjay, 20, a resident of Dhani Kutubpur village, died after he was hit by tin shed during the storm. In another incident, 10-year-old Shakshi died when portion of terrace caved in at Saniyan Mohalla in Hansi town.

The entire Hansi town and 71 villages faced power failure due to disruption of supply as nearly 500 electric poles were damaged in the storm.

Officials of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) at Hansi said that entire town and villages in Hansi, Narnaund and Mundhal (Bhiwani) blocks had gone without power since last night.

“It will take around a week to restore the power supply completely. We are trying to provide power supply to Hansi town,” the official said, adding that over 500 poles had been uprooted in the storm last night. The rain this morning hampered the repair work in the region.

The supply to the 132 KVa substation which feed power to Hansi and adjoining villages was disrupted since yesterday due to the storm and damage to the electricity lines. “The supply has been restored to the substation and we are trying to repair the damaged power distribution lines leading to the town,” said the official. Forest officials estimated that around 500 trees were uprooted last night in the region.

In Hisar, a house collapsed but there was no report of loss of life. The power supply was affected last night, but was restored in the town today.
