Sundernagar, January 15
The bodies of two students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) which were detected by the rescue team on Friday at peak (at a height of 10,000 feet) of Shikari Devi hill were brought here yesterday. The rescue team handed over the bodies to the relatives after a postmortem at the Civil Hospital in Sundernagar.
The doctors said the death was caused due to extreme cold conditions. The family members of the victims who were present here took the bodies.
Both the students, Akshay Kumar from Sujanpur Tihra and Navneet Rana from Barmana (Bilaspur) went missing on January 6.
As per information, both had left the hostel on the pretext that they were going home but later they informed on Facebook that they were at the Shikari Devi peak. After this, the victims’ families visited Janjehali and apprised the administration of this message.
It took two days to bring the bodies up to Janjehali by the 40-member team as the path was heavily covered with snow.
