The migration of state value added tax (VAT) assesses, with turnover of more than Rs 20 lakh, has been slow. The deadline for enrollment under the Good and Services Tax (GST) ended today.
About 153,433 (63.19 per cent) of the total 242,803 VAT assesses have applied for migration to the GST and 94,620 (39 per cent) assesses have enrolled themselves under the GST till March 28.
Of 7,030 VAT assesses in Panchkula, 5348 (76 per cent) have applied and 3,564 assesses have registered themselves under the GST.
As many as 9,369 (75.51 per cent) of the 12,407 registered traders have applied for migration to the GST in Jagadhari (Yamunanagar) while 6,611 traders have actually registered themselves.
As many as 4,906 (70.83 per cent) of 6,926 registered traders in Rewari have applied for migration. Of these, 3,355 have been registered.
SN Sharma, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Karnal, said, “March 31 is the last date for the migration of VAT assesses with turnover of more than Rs 20 lakh. The government will implement GST from July 1”.
He said several workshops were conducted by the department to educate the traders.
