75-yr-old man sets himself afire

KANGRA: A 75-year-old man yesterday committed suicide by setting himself on fire at his house in the Old Kangra area.

A 75-year-old man yesterday committed suicide by setting himself on fire at his house in the Old Kangra area.

Surinder Sharma, Kangra sub-divisional police officer, said the victim had been identified as Gian Chand, who was living with his wife and daughter-in-law. He said according to his family members, Gian Chand sprinkled kerosene on himself and committed suicide. The flames also engulfed a wooden shed at the house and fire tenders had to be called to control the situation.

The victim was taken to the Tanda medical college, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem examination.

Sharma said the police had started investigation.
