Ludhiana, March 29

If the weather experts are to be believed, the minimum and maximum temperature in the city are hovering 6-7 degrees Celsius above the normal temperature.

In absence of the western disturbances, the temperature is expected to increase in the next few days and residents may have to bear the hot, sultry weather.

Vijay Kumar, spokesperson for the Met Department, Chandigarh, said the temperature had seen a sudden increase in this part of the region. In Ludhiana, the minimum temperature recorded was 20.1 degrees Celsius — approximately six degrees above normal. Similarly, the maximum temperature recorded was 36.7 degrees — seven degrees above normal.

He said during March and early April, the temperatures is not expected to rise this much. He said this was likely due to the absence of the western disturbances. He said cloudy weather was expected near March 31 — bringing a respite from heat.

Meanwhile, the increase in temperature has started showing its impact on residents as between 12 pm to 4 pm, the roads witness lesser traffic and residents prefer to remain indoors.

A city-based school teacher said during the NCC classes at school recently, three students fainted as they were unable to bear the scorching heat.

“They were taken to the sick room and provided with glucose,” she said.

Many residents have started keeping earthen pots filled with water for birds to quench their thirst.
