Directors of various zoos from across the country will be in the Dehradun zoo from February 27 to March 2 as part of the annual conference of zoos. The central zoo authority has assigned the Dehradun zoo to host the conference, the first one to be hosted in Uttarakhand.
Dehradun Divisional Forest Officer PK Patro said it was a big honour for the state to host this conference. He said identifying and marking of animals in captivity would be the theme of the conference.
The marking on animals these days are done using micro chips which contains the bio-data of animals. The bio-data travels with animal, when it gets shifted from one zoo to other.
A total of 40 delegates will attend the conference. Besides informing participations about the importance on markings of animals, the conference will also include field visits to the Chidyapur leopard rescue centre where a field demonstration will be undertaken. Monkey marking will be done at the centre. Technical sessions will be conducted which will have experts from the Wildlife Institute of India.
