Mohali, April 19
It will no longer be easy to get a driving licence issued. An applicant will first have to show his driving skills at the automated driving test centre set up in Sector 82 here to get the licence.
The test centre, constructed on 3.5 acres at a cost of over Rs 1 crore, will be inaugurated on April 21 by Chief Parliamentary Secretary NK Sharma.
Deputy Commissioner DS Mangat said here today that the functioning of the automated centre would bring about transparency in the work of issuing licences. The centre would also have the facilities of online test and training.
He said the number of road accidents would also decrease in the future as only those who would be able to clear the driving test on the automated centre tracks would be issued driving licences.
Mangat said the centre was equipped with modern facilities. The applicant would be issued the licence soon after he cleared the driving test.
He said two driving tracks were set up at the centre, which had traffic lights and road signs. A doctor would also be available at the centre to examine applicants.
DTO Karan Singh said CCTV cameras had been installed at the centre and the entire process of issuing a licence would be computerised. One track was meant for two-wheelers, while the second one was for four-wheelers.
