An awareness workshop on government schemes for victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation was organised by the District Legal Services Authority today.

District and Sessions Judge DR Thakur inaugurated the workshop which was attended by paralegal volunteers, employees of the Social Welfare and Mother and Child Development Departments, police personnel and activists of non-government organisations.

Urging all sections of society to fight the menace, the District Judge said effective awareness campaigns on the issues needed to be undertaken.

He said a panel of lawyers had been constituted for rendering assistance to victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, adding that free legal aid was available for them. He said: “The victims not only need to be rescued, but also rehabilitated and followed up.”

Chief Judicial Magistrate Partap Singh Thakur spoke on the constitutional aspects of the scheme for victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.

Judicial Magistrates R Mridul Sharma and Aishwarya Sharma, senior advocate ML Sehejpal, DSP Kulvinder Singh and District Welfare Officer Aseem Sood also deliberated on various topics. Judicial Magistrate Vibhuti Bahuguna and president of the District Bar Association Yogeshwar Pathak were also present.
