Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders led by state party vice-president Harjit Singh Grewal today visited the family of debt-ridden farmer Iqbal Singh (24), who had committed suicide last week, in Mansa’s Sahnewali village.

State BJP secretary Vineet Joshi and BJP Kisan Morcha president Sukhpal Singh Nannu accompanied Grewal. They met the father and the brother of the deceased, and asked the Deputy Commissioner to release the compensation soon.

Later, the BJP leaders visited Khiali Chahlanwali village near Sardulgarh to console the family of Sukhwinder Singh, the son of a former sarpanch shot dead allegedly by a group of Congress supporters recently. The leaders sought the arrest of all accused.

“The BJP will organise a state-level stir against the rising incidents of crime soon if the situation does not improve,” Joshi said. — TNS
