The Doon BJP received a jolt to its move of capturing the Baddi Municipal Committee as a Congress-supported member Narinder Kumar withdrew his support to the no-confidence motion moved yesterday against the president, the vice-president and four BJP councillors.

Narinder Kumar today appeared before ADM, Solan, Sandeep Negi and gave a statement that he had withdrawn his support for this no-confidence motion. He also submitted an affidavit in this respect, thus nullifying the motion as it did not have majority support, confided Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kanwar.

Kanwar said Kumar had earlier informed him about his decision through a faxed letter. So, no-confidence motion moved against the Baddi MC president and the vice-president has been nullified.

It was worth mentioning that since the president of the Baddi MC was brother of Doon MLA Ramkumar Chawdhary, there were slim chances of the no-confidence move reaching its logical conclusion. The Congress now continues to enjoy majority support of 5 of the 9 councillors, thus dashing the BJP’s move to capture the MC.

The development has come as a major blow to the BJP which had pinned its hopes on capturing the post of MC president and vice-president for the first time through this no-confidence motion.
