Centre okays road projects worth Rs5,261 crore in state

NEW DELHI: The Centre today sanctioned major road projects with a cost outlay of Rs5,261 crore for Punjab.

he Centre today sanctioned major road projects with a cost outlay of Rs5,261 crore for Punjab. These will be set up on engineering, procurement and construction mode. The decision was taken during a meeting of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

A Punjab Government spokesperson said the projects include four-laning of the 94-km stretch from Sangrur to Khanouri up to Haryana border (on NH-71); to be constructed at a cost of Rs1,693 crore. The stretch connects areas of Jind, Hisar, Rohtak and Delhi.

The break-up of the proposed constructions on the Sangrur-Khanouri sector are: Sangrur-Dogal Kalan and Dogal Kalan-Khanouri. The construction of by-passes at Sangrur, Dhanaula and Patiala are part of the projects. These also include four-laning of the 128-km Patiala-Bathinda stretch (NH- 64). This would be in three packages: Patiala by-pass to Sangrur by-pass, Sangrur by-pass to the boundary of Barnala city, which would be extended to Bathinda city in the third package. This project would cost Rs1,238 crore.

The other projects are four-six-laning of the Chandigarh-Ludhiana section (NH-95) and upgradation of the Rupnagar-Phagwara road, which would be set up by the National Highway Authority of India.
