Chamba, January 18

The mountainous terrains of Chamba district have been experiencing heavy snowfall continuously for the past three days.

The reports today stated that the lower areas had been experiencing intermittent rain.

The entire Chamba region is in the grip of biting cold. Several interior regions had been cut off from the highways. Consequently, normal life had been paralysed, making the movement difficult.

Meanwhile, officials claimed that the heavy snowfall was beneficial for agriculture and horticulture of the area. The heavy snowfall on the higher ranges was a huge deposit for the summer season, which will enhance electricity generation on the hydropower projects, aid in irrigation and improve water supply schemes of the plains as most of the rivers originating from the Himalayas were snow-fed.
