CM ‘unaware’ of IIM-Rohtak

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today faced embarrassing moments at the “Connect to CM” programme when a student asked him why the state had no IIM.

The event was organised at Kurukshetra University (KU) by Jawahar Yadav, Khattar’s key political aide and chairperson of the Haryana Housing Board.

The CM replied that the premier management institute was the jurisdiction of the Centre and it had laid a procedure for opening such institutes. Khattar also said he had advocated Haryana’s case with the Centre for at least one IIM in the state. As a faculty member of KU told Yadav on stage that Rohtak had an IIM since 2009, embarrassed Khattar said he was unaware of this as he had never visited its campus.

Incidentally, Rohtak is Khattar’s home district. Besides, the state headquarters of the BJP is located there. Among other questions, a girl student from Shahabad Markanda complained that KU was taking more than six months in declaring results and raised questions on “unfair” evaluation of answer books.

Another youth asked why the BJP government failed to implement 17 of its electoral promises related to youth, including holding elections in colleges and universities, and women’s safety.

Khattar said the promises would be fulfilled during the five-year term and claimed that works were in progress. He said colleges would be opened, not to appease any political leader, but to ensure minimum travelling time for girls. To a question on the backlog of jobs reserved for differently abled persons, Khattar said recruitment in several departments would start soon. He announced to participate in similar events at districts as well.

‘No info on Dhingra panel report leak’ 

Kurukshetra: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday denied having any information that the SN Dhingra Commission report was leaked in the press. Khattar questioned the authenticity of the leak of the report containing findings of the alleged irregularities in granting land licences to a firm owned by Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Khattar said since the report was submitted in court, it was the court which would inquire into the claims of leak. TNS
