Of 50 samples of construction material collected from 90 sites in the city, five have failed quality test. The Municipal Corporation (MC) has stopped payment to contractors. It has served notices on them, asking them to change the material.
The use of inferior material came to light in a report by an inspection team that monitors projects that cost more than Rs 5 lakh. “It is mandatory to get projects that cost more than Rs 5 lakh inspected from a third party,” said Aditya Dahiya, Commissioner, MC. One of the team members said quality of material used in the construction of an MC building was not up to the mark. Bricks used in the boundary wall near Kambopura village were of inferior quality.
“The civic body has stopped payment of contractors. They will get funds after they change the construction material,” said Dahiya.
“After inspection from a third party, the quality of material has been improving. I have witnessed drastic improvement in the quality of work,” Dahiya added.
