Sangrur, September 27

Under the banner of the Jamin Prapti Sangharsh Committee, Dalits from various villages of the district staged a protest for two hours outside the District Administrative Complex (DC office) here today.

They lifted the dharna only after the tehsildar fixed their meeting with the Deputy Commissioner on September 29. The protesters were demanding release of eight persons who were arrested recently while protesting in front of a cavalcade of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal near Amargarh and seeking a meeting with the CM for a solution to allotting panchayat lands reserved for SCs to Dalit farmers at low rates.

Earlier, the protesters gathered at the New Grain Market from where they took out a protest march to the District Administrative Complex.
