Pensioners of Wazir Nagar in Kalayat subdivision of the district yesterday protested non-disbursal of their pension in the village for the past three months.

They said that they had been asked to collect their pension from Punjab National Bank branch in Kailram village 6 km away which was very inconvenient to them.

Baldev, Mehar Singh, Darya Ram, Balbir and Bhateri Ramrati said that earlier, they were given their pension at the village chaupal, but no bank employee had come to the village to deliver pension for the past three months. They also threatened to resort to agitation if the problem was not solved.

Meanwhile, the pensioners called on Kalayat sub divisionsl magistrate Om Parkash and brought the matter to his notice. The sub divisionsl magistrate assured them he would talk to officials of the Social Welfare Department and their problem would be resolved.

Jasbir Singh, an employee of the bank, said that they would resume disbursal of the pension in Wazir Nagar and Chausala villages of the district very soon.
