Potable Water Minister Prakash Pant has directed the officials concerned to make both short and long-term plans for ensuring proper drinking water availability in the state this summer season.
Presiding over a meeting of senior officials in Dehradun last evening, Prakash Pant said timely preparation of proposals was important to pursue the funding from the Centre. The potable water-linked infrastructure that had been constructed recently must be made operational so as to ensure water supply from them, he said.
The minister also directed the officials to conduct immediate repairs of water pipelines that had got damaged so as to check wastage of water. He also directed for revival of potable water schemes in villages facing acute water scarcity for long.
Drinking water availability must be maintained in thickly populated settlements in Dehradun and Haridwar districts, Pant added.
Uttarakhand Potable Water Secretary Arvind Singh Hayanki, Additional Secretary Dr Raghav Langar, Peyjal Nigam’s managing director Bhajan Singh and other senior officials attended the meeting. —TNS
