Ferozepur, April 27
Acting tough on farmers setting their crop residue on fire, the district administration has issued challans to 14 erring farmers as per the instructions of the National Green Tribunal.
Sources said the farmers were being tracked real time from the skies using geospatial data and satellite imaginary.
Deputy Commissioner Ramvir said all SDMs, besides revenue and municipal officials, had been given instructions to keep a check on stubble burning and that any such case coming to their notice would be dealt with firmly.
Ramvir said the farmers having landholding of less than 2 acres would be fined Rs 2,500 whereas those with ownership up to 5 acres or beyond would be fined Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
“At any second such instance, we will get criminal case registered against them,” said the DC. — OC
