Sonepat, March 4

Activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, including women of the Rai-Kundli area, today took out a ‘Moosal Yatra’ (march with big sticks) from Khurrampur on the Yamuna bank to Kundli to protest against sand mining in the region and an amendment in the new land acquisition act through an ordinance.

Sangh’s state president Om Singh Chauhan and state general secretary, Virender Badhkhalsa, said the farmers passed through Manoli, Aterna, Nangal Kalan villages and reached the farmers’ dharna sites at Kundli, Beeswan Meel and Rai in front of the Rajiv Gandhi Education City’s main gate.

The march of the farmers resulted in traffic jam for some time on the GT road. Mahinder Singh, Naib Tehsildar, Rai, reached at the site and received a memorandum from the protesters,

Their main demands include striking down the amendments in the new land acquisition act, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations and ban on mining in the villages.

Virender Badhkhalsa said the march was just a warning to the Centre and state government to stop pursuing anti-farmer policies otherwise the farmers would have no other option except, but to initiate large-scale protests.

The BJP leadership had failed to fulfil its promises made to the people after coming to power, at the state and the Centre, Virender added.
