Fee theft: College student ends life

Fatehgarh Sahib, February 24

A 19-year-old woman, Manmeet Kaur, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of a room in her house at officers’ colony here yesterday.

She was taken to the civil hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.

Her father Jarnail Singh, who works at the district administrative complex, said Manmeet, a student of BCom-II at Mata Gujri College, returned from college around 4 pm.

He said his daughter went to her room, but when she didn’t come out for a long time, they broke open the door. He said they were shocked to find her hanging from the fan.

He said a suicide note was found from her room in which Manmeet had stated that she was taking the extreme step as someone had stolen the Rs 19,000 that was to be deposited as college fee.

Navdeep Singh, SHO, Fatehgarh Sahib, said the police have handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem today.

Tarn Taran: Dhiraj Kumar of Amarkot committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Thursday. He was allegedly disturbed due to harassment caused by his wife Mandeep Sharma and her mother Asha Rani of Bhittewidd village (Amritsar). Both have been booked under Section 306 of the IPC on the complaint of Ashok Kumar Sharma, father of the deceased. The accused were absconding, said the police. OC

Villager commits suicide; 2 booked

Sangrur: A resident of Balra village was found hanging from a tree on Thursday. Rajesh Kumar (39) used to  work at a factory in Manimajra while his wife and son stayed with his parents. ASI Parmjit Singh said, “We have registered a case against Rajinder and Tony, both residents of Manimajra, as the deceased has alleged in his suicide note that both are responsible for his suicide as they had refused to return his money.” TNS
