Leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala had a narrow escape in a pile-up near Samanabahu village on the National Highway-1 in the district due to dense fog. Abhay was on his way to Bhiwani from Chandigarh.

Abhay said his driver had to apply emergency brakes as several vehicles had already piled up in front, following which the escort vehicle rammed into his official vehicle. It was a narrow escape for him and his staff, who were travelling in the pilot, escort and his official vehicles, he said.

Later addressing mediapersons, Abhay hit out at the state government for poor traffic management during fog.

He said several vehicles already piled up on the highway, but were not removed. It was the duty of the police to get them removed from the site.

He also accused the state government of spending huge amount on the Gita Jayanti celebrations for self-promotion instead of on development works.

One SYL canal issue, he said: “I have asked all MLAs to join hands for the canal on February 23 so that waters of the state could be brought.”

He also accused former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for not bringing waters in the Hansi-Butana canal and said that the government should recover Rs 450 crore from the previous Hooda government which spent this amount on the construction of the Hansi-Butana canal but failed to bring water in it
