Former Dy CM’s PRO arrested in assets case

JAMMU: The Vigilance Organisation today arrested Kewal Sharma, a resident of Kachrial in Khour tehsil, at present residing at Patta Paloura, Jammu, in a case of disproportionate assets.

The Vigilance Organisation today arrested Kewal Sharma, a resident of Kachrial in Khour tehsil, at present residing at Patta Paloura, Jammu, in a case of disproportionate assets.

A statement issued by the Vigilance Organisation said that during investigation of the case against the accused, it was found that he had amassed assets worth crores of rupees in the form of commercial and luxury vehicles and residential houses, both within and outside the state.

Kewal Sharma was the Public Relations Officer of a former Deputy Chief Minister.

The statement said that during investigation, it had been found that the accused had managed to open bank accounts on fake documents and deposited crores of rupees in them and the money had been utilised for purchasing assets by the accused.

“Further, the documents regarding qualification on the basis of which Kewal Sharma has been appointed have also been found to be fake for which a separate FIR has been filed and the case is under investigation,” it said.

The accused has been formally arrested and after medical examination lodged in police custody, it said, adding that further investigation is on.
