NURPUR: Captain Baldev Singh (retd), a freedom fighter died at his native Jonta village near Nurpur last evening. He was 95. He was cremated with guard of honour from the state police.

Captain Baldev Singh (retd), a freedom fighter died at his native Jonta village near Nurpur last evening. He was 95. He was cremated with guard of honour from the state police. Former MLA Rakesh Pathania, Deputy Superintendent of Police and tehsildar, Nurpur, paid their tributes to Capt Baldev Singh. Captain Baldev Singh had served in the Azad Hind Fauj before independence. He hoisted the tricolor at Moyeerang in Imphal on April 4, 1944. He was subsequently dismissed from the service. He was honoured with ‘Tamarpatra’ by the President of India. — OC
