Fresh snow adds to woes of fire-ravaged village

SHIMLA: Fresh snow has added to the woes of residents of fire-ravaged Tangnu village. The snow has cut off the village from the Rohru town, snapping road and power connectivity.

Fresh snow has added to the woes of residents of fire-ravaged Tangnu village. The snow has cut off the village from the Rohru town, snapping road and power connectivity. As a result of fresh snowfall, rescue operations were hit as the Rohru administration failed to supply cattle feed and other essential items of daily use to the fire victims.

Over 500 domestic animals, including sheep, goats and cows have been left without feed as all stocks of feed and grass were burnt in the fire that broke out yesterday. The road and power connectivity have been snapped it has snowed one-and-a-half feet today. Villagers have no stocks of cattle feed, said Bhagat Singh, panchayat pradhan, Tangnu.

The villagers of Chantwari, Thaitwari and Diudi, where over 217 fire victims have taken shelter, are providing cattle feed for the hapless domestic animals.

SDM Rohru Anupam Thakur said the PWD had deployed JCB machine and cleared the road up to Duidi. “The additional supplies of cattle feed and other items will resume as soon as the road is cleared. Langar has been organised for the villagers”, he added.

The villagers had got supplies from the Rohru Byopur Mandal, which donated the fire victims ration, warn clothing and cattle feed, said the villagers. But they have to feed over 400 heads of cattle , sheep and goats.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that the state government would provide all possible assistance for proper rehabilitation of all the affected families who lost their houses and belongings in the devastating fire. He has directed the administration to ensure medical facilities for these families and ensure that they do not face any difficulties due to shortage of water and power.

The Chief Minister said the affected families would be provided financial assistant under Indira Awas Yojna and Rajeev Awas Yojna on a priority basis.
