Classical vocalist Dr Saubhagya Vardhan of Rampur Sadarang created a spell of light classical music and ghazals during the  Harinaad Sangeet Series organised by the Haryana Kala Parishad at its concert hall here today.

Vardhan started with an invocatory ‘Vandna’ before doling out raga-based ghazals by eminent writers. He presented various items, including Shauqe’s ‘ Kaya hoti guftgu kabhi mauqa nahin mila’ or Chhoti chhoto baaton se in raga Ahir bhairav, Dr Sardar Anjum’ s classic ‘Gham-e-hyaat ka jhagda mita raha hai koi’ in Miyan ki Todi raga.

Vardhan was at his best when he brought alive the lyrical intent of poet Madhav Kaushik’s popular ghazal ‘Halaat se nibhah kiye mudtein hui’ set to raga Multani to win a huge applause. He was accompanied by Ustad Mehmood Khan on tabla and Sarbjit on harmonium.

Kathak guru Shobha Koser was the chief guest and Dr Ajay Singhal, Director, Haryana Kala Parishad, honoured the artistes.
