Even as the “mehandi” ceremony of a bride-to-be was solemnised, she refused to be married to the groom-to-be, who was allegedly insisting on a Scorpio instead of an Alto and Rs 11 lakh in cash.
Sources said Renu Kasnia’s parents in Sardarpura Khalsa village in Hanumangarh had last night finalised arrangements for the marriage but before taking the barat from Sirsa, the boy reportedly called Renu to “remind” her of the demands. The parents claimed to have delivered furniture worth Rs 4 lakh at the boy’s residence and arranged an Alto too. However, the girl refused to be married to the “dowry-seeker”. As the word spread, Rakesh Ghintala, a well-placed engineer of Phephana, appreciated the decision taken by the girl, who is pursuing a B.Ed degree. After consulting his parents, Rakesh sent his marriage proposal to Renu, which was accepted. Municipal Council chairperson Santosh Saharan and former legislator Dharminder Mochi said the girl would be felicitated for her brave move.
