Chandigarh, March 29

Bajrang Dass Garg, president, Haryana Pradesh Vyapar Mandal, today objected to the provision of imprisonment and attachment of properties of traders for evasion of tax under the GST Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha.

Garg said the penal provisions incorporated in the Central GST Bill were too harsh and anti-trader.

He said the traders pay tax to the government and hence it was unjustified to burden them with such harsh penal provisions.

The traders’ body chief appealed to the government to withdraw the provisions of imprisonment and attachment of properties in larger public interest.
