Governor Acharya Devvrat today stressed the need for conserving traditional water resources to save society from water scarcity, high pollution levels and declining water table. Speaking at a seminar on Water Conservation and Management organized at the Raj Bhawan here today, the Governor lamented how our traditional water sources and clean pure water seeping through the mountains has become a thing of the past.

Acharya Devvrat said rapid growth in population, rising demand for food and cash crops, urbanization and rising standard of living had resulted in the problem of water scarcity. He said for efficient water conservation and management, people should be made aware of the necessity of water and its conservation.

The Governor said he had launched Himachal Pradesh Water Conservation Literacy Special Campaign in the state with the active cooperation of the local people. The campaigns like drug de-addiction, cleanliness, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao and zero budget natural farming had been started for social cause and people of every sphere had supported the issues.

He said the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides had not only reduced the soil productivity but was having serious ill effect on human health. He said there was need to go back to traditional ways which guaranteed healthy living.
