Former state BJP chief Kamal Sharma underwent angioplasty at Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) here today.

According to his family members, Sharma complained of severe chest pain in the morning at his Ferozepur residence. After an emergency check-up at a hospital there, he was referred to the HDHI.

Chief Cardiologist Dr GS Wander and his team detected a blockage in the main coronary artery, following which angioplasty was performed. The doctors said Sharma’s condition was stable, but he would be kept under observation in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit for some time.

As the ambulance carrying him arrived at the hospital here, he was received by several local BJP leaders, including party secretary Anil Sareen and former district president Parveen Bansal. Later, Amritsar Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, former minister Tikshan Sud and other senior state party leaders met the doctors and Sharma’s family.
