Over 12 transformers and hundreds of electricity poles installed in different parts of the town have been lying defunct for the past 10 years in the absence of proper maintenance and repairs.

However, no HPSEBL official is bothered about getting these repaired.

Sources said these installations had not been painted or repaired for the past 20 years because of acute financial crisis in HPSEBL.

The electricity poles and transformers installed on the roadside are in bad shape and can result in a big tragedy if hit by speeding vehicles.

HPSEBL executive engineer VS Thakur said there was no separate budget for the maintenance and repairs of electricity equipment like poles and transformers. He said he had to shut down the entire power supply for its repair and maintenance and were not repaired or painted. He admitted that many installations were in bad shape.

He, however, said the matter had been brought to his notice and he would look into it at the earliest.
