A delegation of jail authorities from six states and a Union Territory visited the district jail here today. Earlier in the day, it visited Jhajjar and Gurgaon jails.
The delegation is on a five-day Vertical Interaction Course to get familiar with correctional and constructive steps for prisoners. The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), India Vision Foundation and Haryana Prisons Department offer the course.
The delegation visited the industrial unit, the canteen, the bakery, the hospital, the school and the women’s ward in the Karnal jail. Later, members of the delegation interacted with inmates.
The delegation comprises jail officials from Maharashtra, HP, Delhi, Rajasthan, MP, Punjab and Chandigarh.
Swati Sathe, DIG, Yerwada Central Jail, Maharashtra, led the delegation. She appreciated efforts of the Karnal jail authorities.
She invited Prisons Department officials to visit Maharashtra jails to boost industrial initiatives in Haryana jails. “Jails in Maharashtra are doing well in manufacturing industrial goods. So I have invited Haryana officials to come there to boost industrial divisions in their jails.”
She was impressed with the infrastructural development in Haryana jails. “I will visit jails in Haryana again,” the DIG added.
