Jat leaders today assured the district administration that their proposed dharna on January 29 will be peaceful.

During a meeting with senior officials of the district administration here, representatives of the Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti also assured that the administration would be informed well in advance about the time and place of their dharna in the district so that it could take all necessary steps for maintaining law and order.

The Jats’ body had announced to observe a dharna on January 29 in support of reservation for members of the community and release of “innocent” youths from jails.

The meeting today was presided over by Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang. Additional DC Shiv Prasad, SDMs Vikas Yadav, Nirmal Nagar, Ajay Kumar and Rajiv Ahlawat, DSPs Rajiv Deswal and Ravinder Tomar, and other district officials were present.

The Deputy Commissioner urged the Jat leaders to raise their demands in a democratic and constitutional way and asked them to take prior permission for staging a peaceful dharna.
