Jalandhar, January 14

The Left Front, comprising the CPI, the CPM and the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI), today released its election manifesto.

The manifesto has promised the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations in the agriculture sector; providing 10-marla plots to landless labourers in rural areas to build houses; a favourable policy for the industrial sector; strict action against drug traders; policies to curb rising inflation; making efforts to include ‘right to work’ among the Fundamental Rights; bringing quality and affordable education and diminishing privatisation of education; recruitment of qualified doctors to improved healthcare; making the administration accountable for violence against women; abolition of property tax imposed on the lower class in urban areas; closure of toll plazas on highways; and making Punjabi a ‘Raj Bhasha’ in letter and spirit.

Addressing a press conference, CPI state secretary Bhupinder Sambar, CPM state secretary Charan Singh Virdi and RMPI general secretary Mangat Ram Pasla said they would fight a legal fight on key issues, such as riverwaters and the inclusion of Chandigarh and other Punjabi-speaking areas in Punjab.
