Master Saleem, Ali brothers enthral

Famous Punjabi singers Master Saleem and Ali brothers performed during the second cultural night of the Haroli Utsav, which is under way at Kangar village, here yesterday. The Local MLA and Industries Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Earlier, local women presented a fashion show on the stage, while bike stunts, horse dance and tug-of-war events were performed at the nearby open space.

Speaking on the occasion, Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said the festival was celebrated to mark the wheat harvesting season. He said during the last four and a half years, sustained efforts had been made in the Assembly segment to create a network of irrigation schemes in every panchayat to ensure a bountiful crop for farmers.

The minister said the Rs 44-crore Beet area special irrigation scheme was in the final stages, which, once completed, would help irrigate agriculture fields in nine panchayats lying in upper reaches of the segment. He said the festival assumed significance as all farmers of Haroli segment would get round the year irrigation facilities for their crops, ensuring a bumper yield without having to wait for rainfall.
