Mohali, March 27

The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MMC) has made a provision of Rs 7.50 crore in its proposed budget to run city bus service in the town.

In its Rs 21 crore deficit budget, which would be presented in house meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the corporation complex, the MMC has mentioned its expected expenditure as Rs 138.50 crore against the expected income of 117.50 crore in next financial year (2017-18).

Under the proposed budget provisions, Rs 98 crore (non-committed expenses) would be spent on developmental works.

The estimated expenditure on establishment is Rs 37 crore while the committed expenses would be Rs 42.50 crore.

Apart from the bus service, the MMC has proposed to spend Rs 3 crores on modernization of the slaughter houses.

From VAT/octroi charges, the department is looking forward to increase its annual income.

"This year, we had targeted to earn Rs 66 crore. In the next financial year, our estimated income from the source would be Rs 6.60 crore", said said Rajesh Dhiman, the MMC commissioner.

The MMC has also revised the budget of the current financial year (2016-17), which would also be presented in the House tomorrow. Earlier, the MMC's estimated income was Rs 87.90 crore in the current financial year but now the figure has crossed Rs 100 crore-mark.

"Now the MMC's estimated income would be Rs 102.82 crore so we have prepared the revised budget in this regard", said the commissioner.

The MMC has also hoped to earn around Rs two crore more than its targeted income of Rs 12 crore in this financial year.
