Mohali hospital gets nine more dog-bite cases

MOHALI: The number of dog-bite cases has risen in Mohali and the surrounding areas.

The number of dog-bite cases has risen in Mohali and the surrounding areas. Nine victims, including three from Chandigarh, approached the Civil Hospital here for help today. Six of them were minor girls and women.

Dr Parminder Singh, who was on emergency duty at the hospital, said there were three male victims — Som Pal (32) from Matour village, Shiv Kumar (37) from Mohali village and Jai Parkash (26) from Phase IV here.

He said three minor girls were also bitten by stray dogs. They were Nidhi Kumari (9) from Sector 56, Chandigarh, Lakshmi (15) from Phase VI and Komal (14) from Phase XI. The other bite victims were Anju Devi (35) from Sector 56, Chandigarh, Shakuntala (28) of Palsora, Chandigarh, and Rinku Devi (32) from Phase I here. Dr Om Raj Goldie, SMO in-charge of the hospital, said the facility to administer the anti-rabies vaccine to dog-bite victims could not be started in dispensaries here as adequate staff was not available. Moreover, the dispensaries functioned only during OPD hours. The Civil Hospital had all facilities required in this regard, he said.
