Mehdudan (Bassi Pathana), Dec 9

In yet another jolt to SAD candidate Darbara Singh Guru, more than 350 Akali workers, including sarpanches, panches and block samiti members, resigned from the party to protest the appointment of Varinder Pal Singh as the market committee chairman of Bassi Pathana. Yesterday also, many party members had reigned.

A meeting to this effect was convened at Mehdudan village this evening where a large number of party workers participated.

SAD circle president, Kheri Naudsingh, Amrik Singh Romy said appointments had been made without taking them into confidence and on the recommendations of the former Fatehgarh Sahib SAD chief Jagdeep Singh Cheema’s group. He alleged that Cheema, who is Right to Service commissioner, had been threatening party workers submitting resignations. Amrik said if the party supremo did not change the decision, they would boycott the party in the elections.

However, Cheema while refuting the allegations said he had no connection with the appointment of the market committee chairman.
