No discrimination

Despite tall claims of the Electricity Department of making the city power sufficient, frequent power cuts have become the norm in Chandigarh.

Despite tall claims of the Electricity Department of making the city power sufficient, frequent power cuts have become the norm in Chandigarh. It is common to see residents making complaints that their grievances are not being heard by the department at the complaint centre for hours together. But what happened with a senior officer of the UT Administration, residing in Sector 7 the other day, testifies that the department never discriminates while attending to the complaints. When the officer failed to get someone from the electricity Department to fix a fault after making the complaint over the phone for two hours, he himself visited the office. When the employees recognised him, all swung into action and linemen were sent to his residence to rectify the fault immediately.

PU faces heat

A police personnel who has been on duty during all the recent protests against fee hike by students of Panjab University, reiterated Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover’s concern that the agitation had caused a dent in the image of the institution. “In the wake of so many protests, my son, who has just appeared for his Class XII exam, says he does not want to study in this university, which according to him, has become a breeding ground for violence,” he said, adding that the students make or break the image of the educational institution they study at is evident from the case of Panjab University.

Complaints galore

Instances of misbehaviour by staff seem to be on the rise at the Panchkula Civil Hospital. A man sent an email to the hospital’s Principal Medical Officer’s office alleging misbehaviour by the staff. The e-mail says that the staff thrice failed to take blood sample of his nine-month-old baby. On questioning the staff for delay, they misbehaved with him and his wife which led to his wife getting sick due to low-blood pressure. Earlier, a complaint was submitted to the PMO that the hospital staff was forcing new parents to give them gifts in cash.
