Only observers can take phones inside vote-counting centres

MUKTSAR: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) VK Singh today said no one except for observers would be allowed to carry mobile phone inside vote-counting halls in the state on March 11.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) VK Singh today said no one except for observers would be allowed to carry mobile phone inside vote-counting halls in the state on March 11.

The CEO was here today to review the preparations for counting of votes and held a meeting with the representatives of various political parties.

In an interaction with mediapersons at Malout, he said, “Neither any representative of political party nor any independent candidate or any other person will be allowed to carry mobile phone to the counting hall. Only observers will be permitted to do so,” said VK Singh.

He said all arrangements for the counting of votes had been made and representatives of all political parties were satisfied with it.

Additional Director General of Police VK Bhanwra was accompanying the CEO.

Sangrur: CEO VK Singh along with ADGP VK Bhanwra on Tuesday inspected the counting centre in Bardwal college of Dhuri. The CEO took a round of all halls for around two hours.

“We briefed the CEO about our arrangements. He inspected all seven halls of all seven constituencies and oversaw our other arrangements for counting. He was satisfied with our preparations,” said Dr Abhinav Trikha, Sangrur Deputy Commissioner.

Moga: The district election authorities of Moga have started making arrangements for the counting of votes on March 11 for the four Assembly constituencies of Moga district at different halls in the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here. The District Magistrate-cum-District Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar Thind visited the four counting centres and also held a meeting with the returning officers of these constituencies. SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor was also present in the meeting.
